Astro Robots

Explore Astro Robots

Welcome to an exciting chapter of my portfolio, where I present Astro 1 and Astro 2—significant advancements in educational robotics that I developed.

As the main programmer and visionary behind these projects, I integrated complex programming skills to bring these robots to life, enhancing their interactivity and functionality.

While collaborating with fellow students at Pascal English School in Larnaca, Cyprus, I ensured that these robots not only serve as technological showcases but also as educational tools demonstrating the practical application of STEM concepts in a real-world setting. Notably, Astro 2 is the world's largest AI-powered spider-like robot built by students, marking a milestone in educational robotics.

In recognition of these innovative projects, I received extensive media coverage, including television segments, radio interviews, and online video features. I was invited to speak on radio stations and news programs, sharing the journey and impact of Astro 1 and Astro 2. These opportunities not only highlighted my achievements in educational robotics but also inspired broader community interest in STEM education.

Development of Astro 1

The journey began with Astro 1, a pioneering project I spearheaded to introduce students to the basics of robotics and programming. Designed and built from scratch, Astro 1 featured basic interactive capabilities and served as a practical tool for engaging students with technology. My programming enabled Astro 1 to perform simple tasks, making it a beloved part of the school's tech initiatives and a stepping stone to more complex robotics projects.

Advancements with Astro 2

Building on the success of Astro 1, I developed Astro 2 to push the boundaries of educational robotics even further. This larger and more advanced robot includes features such as voice recognition, interactive lighting, facial mask recognition, age and gender approximation by face, visitor recognition via QR code, voice interaction via QR-code, and COVID-19 pass validity checks. These enhancements demonstrate advanced technical capabilities and foster interactive learning experiences. Astro 2 stands as the largest AI-powered spider-like robot built by students, a testament to my commitment to innovation and excellence.

Technical Challenges and Innovations

The development of Astro 2 involved overcoming numerous technical challenges, including integrating sophisticated software for dynamic interaction with users. As the lead programmer, I implemented algorithms for real-time processing and response to environmental stimuli, transforming Astro 2 into a smart educational companion capable of engaging in meaningful interactions. My focus on innovation allowed us to break new ground in educational robotics.

Impact and Future Potential

Astro 1 and Astro 2 have not only been showcased at school events but have also been demonstrated in different cities such as Larnaca, Paphos, Nicosia, and Limassol, inspiring other educational institutions to explore the potential of robotics in teaching and learning.

Looking ahead, I plan to further enhance the capabilities of these robots, incorporating advanced AI and machine learning to make them even more interactive and responsive.

My goal is to continue using these projects to inspire a new generation of students in the fields of robotics and computer science.
